The words ShoutOrbit uses on its pages and in its emails, each in a sentence or two.
These are the words you'll see on ShoutOrbit, in the order you're likely to meet them. Each one links to the page that explains it in full.
On an Orbit
-
Orbit: One creator's page for one piece of content they're about to publish: a title, a promise, a number of slots, a bidding deadline and a publish date. The life of an Orbit
-
Slot: One place the creator promises to fill with a sponsor's name. A creator sets between 1 and 10. The shout-out
-
Promise: What the creator says they'll do with the slots, in their own words, such as "I'll name the top three on Friday." Also called the deliverable. Open an Orbit
-
Pitch: The words in your bid that the creator reads out. Up to 150 characters: a plug, a question for the creator, or both. Placing a bid
-
Shout-out: The bids in the slots, plus any the creator picked. Ranked and numbered at the top of the Orbit, and the only bids that are charged. The shout-out
-
Cutoff: The lowest bid that still holds a slot. To take one you bid the cutoff plus $1.00, because ties go to the earlier bid. Fair ranking
-
Follow: Following a creator gets you an email when one of their Orbits opens for bids. Followers
When bidding ends
-
Cancelling closes: 12 hours before the deadline. After it a bid is "Final — can't be cancelled", though you can still raise it. Raise or cancel
-
Creator check: The 2 days after bidding ends in which the creator says yes or no to each winner, and may pick bids. A yes charges that winner. The creator check
-
Pick: A bid the creator adds to the shout-out during the creator check, up to 5 on an Orbit. Marked as their choice, charged its own bid, and it never pushes out a paid winner. The shout-out
-
Next in line: The 3 highest bids below the winners once bidding ends. Each is told, and may move up. After bidding ends
-
Move up: A sponsor who was next in line taking a winner's place, after that winner was removed or didn't pay. They're charged their own bid. After bidding ends
-
Step out: Leaving the line for free, so you can't move up and won't be charged. After bidding ends
-
Fix day: The 1 day a winner has to fix a payment that failed. Left unfixed, their place goes to the next in line. Paying
-
Line close: 74 hours after the deadline. After it nobody else moves up, a place that frees stays empty, and the creator gets their final list. The life of an Orbit
-
Payment clearing: A bank payment that has started and not yet landed. It takes about 4 business days, and the sponsor is on the final list in the meantime. Paying
After the content goes up
-
Publish date: The date the creator promises to publish by, at least 4 days after bidding ends. Preview and deliver
-
Delivery: The creator pasting the link to the published content on ShoutOrbit. The creator's payout is counted from here. Payout on delivery
Contracts
-
Contract: A sponsor's public request for one shout-out: what they promote, their budget, who should talk about it and by when. Creators answer it. Post a contract
-
Request: A creator's answer to a contract: what they'll do, in their own words, and the day it will be live. Only the sponsor and that creator see it. The sponsor picks one. Send a request
-
Deal chat: The private chat between a sponsor and a creator who sent a request on their contract, so the sponsor can ask questions before picking. Send a request
