Get paid: setup
Connect a bank through Stripe once, so sponsors on your Orbits can be charged and you can be paid.
ShoutOrbit pays creators through Stripe. Before anyone on your Orbit can be charged, Stripe needs a bank account it can pay you in. You set this up once, on your Payouts page, and it covers every Orbit you open after that.
How it works
- Open your Payouts page. You can open an Orbit first and do this after. Your Orbit's page just won't take bids until it's done.
- Choose the country your bank is in. The list covers banks in the US, the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein or the EU. Pick carefully: you can't change it later.
- Press Connect Stripe. Stripe asks for the details it needs to pay you, such as your name, address and bank account. If you stop part-way, the button reads "Finish Stripe setup" and takes you back to where you left off.
- Wait for Stripe to say yes. Once it does, your Payouts page says your bank is connected, and sponsors can bid on your Orbits.
After that you're paid 7 days after you paste the link to the published content, for each winning bid whose payment has landed. See Payouts for when the money moves.
If your country isn't listed
Choose Somewhere else at the bottom of the list. We'll tell you we can't pay a bank there yet, and ask which country yours is in. Pick it and press Tell us. We use these answers to decide which country to add next. Until we can pay you, nobody can bid on your Orbits.
Why it works this way
Why sponsors can't bid until your payouts are ready. A sponsor who wins is charged within days. If we couldn't pay you, we'd be holding their money with nowhere to send it. So we never charge anyone for a creator we can't pay.
Why the country is fixed. Stripe sets an account's country when it opens and won't change it afterwards. We ask you directly, with no default, so you don't end up with an account in the wrong country that you can't use.
Why only these countries. Stripe can open accounts in more places than we can pay. Sponsors are charged to our US account, and Stripe only moves that money across borders to the countries on this list. We'd rather tell you now than let you run an Orbit and find out at payout.
Why everything is in US dollars. Every bid on every Orbit is ranked on one list, which only works if every amount is in the same currency. You see dollars on ShoutOrbit, and Stripe pays your bank in your own currency, converting at its rate on the way out.
What can go wrong
- "We can't open a payout account in your country yet." Stripe refused to open an account in a country on our list. Write to us and we'll look into it.
- Stripe asks for more details. Your Payouts page says Stripe still needs a few details. Until you finish, nobody can bid on your Orbits, and winners on an Orbit that has already closed can't be charged.
- Stripe stops being able to pay you after bidding ends. Your winners aren't charged while that lasts. Fix it on your Payouts page. If it still isn't fixed when the line closes, 74 hours after the deadline, those winners are released and never charged.
