Getting paid
When each winner's share reaches your bank, what ShoutOrbit takes, and the few things that can hold a payout.
You're paid for each winning bid, 7 days after you paste the link to the published content. You keep 77% of every winning bid of $5.00 or more. Payouts run through Stripe, straight to your bank, and once a payout reaches you it is never taken back.
How it works
- Your winners are charged during your creator check. That money isn't yours yet: if the content never goes up, it all goes back to the sponsors.
- You publish and paste the link. This is what starts the clock, not the charge.
- 7 days later each payment that has landed is paid out to your bank, one payout per winning bid.
- A bank payment still clearing is paid out once it lands. If it fails, you aren't paid for that sponsor, and nothing else changes.
Before any of this, Stripe needs a bank account it will pay to. Until it has one, nobody on your Orbit can be charged at all. See Setting up payouts.
Your three numbers
Your dashboard shows your money as three figures, and never adds them up:
| Figure | What it is |
|---|---|
| Paid out | In your bank. |
| Coming to you | Published, and waiting out the 7 days. The dates are on your Payouts page. |
| Needs your video | Charged, on an Orbit with no link yet. Yours once you post it. |
Only the first two are money that's on its way to you. Money that needs your video can still go back to every sponsor if the link never arrives, so adding all three together would be a number told in your favour.
What ShoutOrbit takes
Our cut is 23% of each winning bid, or 30% on a bid under $5.00. Card and bank processing come out of our cut, and nothing else comes off your side. Nobody else on your Orbit is charged, so there's nothing else to take a cut of.
| Lowest bid | Example bid | |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsor charged | $1.00 | $25.00 |
| ShoutOrbit's cut | $0.30 (30%) | $5.75 (23%) |
| You keep | $0.70 | $19.25 |
The cut is worked out on each winning bid on its own, never on your Orbit's total. Prices are in US dollars; if your bank is elsewhere, Stripe pays you in your own currency.
What can hold a payout
- A sponsor says they weren't in it. During the 7 days after the link, a sponsor in the shout-out can answer no. That pauses the payout on that Orbit until a person has watched the content. A yes changes nothing, and neither does no answer at all.
- A sponsor's bank disputes their charge. That sponsor's share waits until the dispute closes, and you're paid it only if the bank closes it in our favour.
- A bank warns that a charge may be fraud. That sponsor's share waits until a person has looked. If the money goes back to the sponsor, you aren't paid it.
- Your account is suspended. Payouts wait until the suspension is lifted. See Suspensions.
A dispute or a fraud warning holds only that one sponsor's share. Nobody else's share on the Orbit is touched.
Why it works this way
Why you're paid from the link, not the charge. Nobody can check your promise for you. A sponsor who pays and gets no video never bids again, so the published link is the one objective proof, and the payout follows it. See Payout on delivery.
Why the wait is 7 days. Those are the sponsors' days to say they weren't in it, or to ask for their money back. The window and the wait are the same number, so a sponsor can never be refunded from money that has already reached you.
Why one payout per winning bid. One sponsor's dispute holds one share while everyone else's pays out on time.
Why the cut is higher on small bids. Card processing costs a fixed fee on every charge as well as a percentage. On a bid of a few dollars that fixed fee is a big share, and a flat rate would lose money on every small win.
Why a payout is never taken back. A refund or a chargeback that lands after you've been paid is ShoutOrbit's loss, not yours. A surprise debit weeks later is not something you should have to plan for.
What can go wrong
- You never paste the link. No link by your publish date plus 7 days and every sponsor is refunded in full. You're paid nothing for that Orbit. See Preview and deliver.
- A bank payment fails after the link is in. You aren't paid for that sponsor. Everyone else is paid as normal.
- You decline a sponsor after they were charged. They're refunded in full and you aren't paid for them. Once their share has been paid out to you, it can't be refunded from your side.
- Your bank is in a country we can't pay to. For now your bank has to be in the US, the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein or the EU. Choose "Somewhere else" on your Payouts page and tell us the country, so we know where creators are waiting.
